SMOC is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1992 with the purpose of building, preserving, and studying a world-class collection of historical fashion, traditional costumes, and textiles.
SMOC Presents "Laikés Foresiés" - Zéfyros Hellenic Dance Society with authentic costumes from all over Greece. This collection of costumes (some of which date back as far as the 1850s) provides a visual representation of Greece’s traditional cultural legacy.
This collection of costumes (some of which date back as far as the 1850s) provides a visual representation of Greece’s traditional cultural legacy, as reflected both in everyday village life, and in age-old communal events such as weddings, festivals, and saints’ days.
The ultimate goal of SMOC is to house and display this collection in a permanent museum of historic fashion and fabric arts for residents of and visitors to the city of Vancouver. We're home to thousands of artifacts that date from circa 1800 to today.
From glamour and glitz to everyday grit, we recreate the story of how people have adorned themselves in all walks of life for centuries.
Since its inception, SMOC has produced essential, entertaining, educational programs on costume and fashion history. All programs and events are open to the public.
